Westies Fall to Money Shots, 62-40; Ground Broken on Matt Ross Community Center Renovations

KU's Aldrich, Collins, and Kansas City Royals Trey Hillman and John Buck on hand for game and ceremonies.

Bremerton West suffered their third loss on the trot as they couldn’t find a way to contain the Money Shots Tuesday night in Ross Dome League Action.  Blue shirt tall guy continued his hot play vs. the Westies, dropping 30, while new signing gray shirt tall guy added 20 and 10 and nearly ripped the Grocer’s arm off in a rebound battle in the first half.  Freshman G/F Matt Kadel paced the Westies with 16, while the Grocer, Roth and Carr all finished with 8.  F David Plous finished with 7 and earned the Einstein Brother’s baker’s dozen award for scoring 7 points while missing 13 shots, all with in a 3 foot radius of the rim.  ’Yeah, I’m f_cking pressing, you would be too,’ Plous screamed at reporters during an expletive laced tirade post game in which he had to be restrained by Chipper.

Things looked good for the Westies early as they shocked the Shots by coming out in high pressure man-to-man look and kept it close early.  “Look, these guys shoot 85% from 3 against us in the zone, if we hold them to 70% in man, we might cover the first half spread”, Burke said during the pregame team meeting.  The game was close early and the Westies even cut it to 9 in the second half, but the Shots were too much on this night.  A series of and 1s surrendered by Plous down the stretch put the game out of reach.  Kadel still fought to the finish, yelling at the Shots and refs ‘count it and one’ as he made an uncontested lay up as time expired.  “I’m here to play and get in guys heads,” Kadel added, “I grew up on the streets of Indy, KS and I’m not backing down from anyone.  And snitches get stitches.”

The one high for the teams and the crowd was the appearance of KU’s Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins who announced they’d return to KU at halftime of the Westies’ game.  “We wanted to announce it here”, Aldrich, a 7’2’’ C said, “the Matt Dome is really where it all started for Sherron and I.”  Collins’ Mom was on hand to see her son announce his intention to return to school.  “I told him that I get 2010 ring and he gets the 2008 ring.  Since the 2010 will have more ice in it, right?  Wait, what do you think?” the proud Mom said.  “I’m just mad I missed Sherron Colli-Sarge ball tonight, know what I’m saying?” Collins said.

Seated next to the group from Lawrence was the Royals’ Trey Hillman and John Buck (in what will be the Founder’s Club Courtside MVP seats, presented by Delta Dental and MasterCard) on hand to root the Westies on and celebrate the ground breaking of the renovations.  ‘We are really happy for the Ross Family, these renovations will really transform the facility,” reserve KC catcher John Buck said.  “I’m looking forward to coming out when the new John Deere Track Club is complete”, Buck added, referring to the all-inclusive seats that will be built where the running track is currently located.  Hillman was asked about the Westies play- “Well, Matty and Rothy looked good early, and Burkey and Chippy played ok on the boards, but it just wasn’t enough.”  When asked about his Royals, Hillman said, “Well what can you say, Bucky is doing his thing like we all knew he could, we are getting Bloomey time at every position, TPJ-ey looks good at short and Teahen-ey has gotten time at 4 spots.”  Asked why he adds ‘ey’ on to the back of everybody’s name, Hillman said, “Do your research, not a dime back-ey.”

Game time next week to be announced by Sarge when he gets back from his recruiting trip Iowa….he was spotted at an Ames-area Ruby Tuesday last night with Craig Brackins and Curtis Stinson.

Scorekeeper Jeffrey added, "4 fouls on 25 - 4 fouls on 25!"
