Dave Plous and Matt Kadel's "Bremerton Bailout Plan" worked to perfection on Tuesday night a The Matt Ross Community Center. LCF13 switched it up by changing jersey numbers, and repeatedly telling teammates before the game, "I'm tired of getting our asses kicked every time out. Let's [expletive] win a [expletive] game tonight."
For the first time in recent memory, the Westies came out firing on all cylinders.
Kadel and Plous combined deft interior passing with rare high shot percentage to climb out to an early commanding lead. Swingman Tyler Whetstine also attacked the basket as well as he has all season long. "You play to win the game," he was quoted after the victory.
The halftime momentum went to team Faghousen, as a broken play led to a 28-foot leaner dropping as time expired. The Westies led at half, 26-23. "Look, we're undefeated when we lead at half," Coach Sargent noted after the game. "I felt good about our chances. We just needed to go back inside and get easy duckets."
Goehausen would tie the game around the 12:00 mark left in the game. From there, Plous, Kadel, and Whetstine took over. Matt Sargent threw in a few ugly lay-ins as well. Free throws were the name of the game down the stretch, with Whetstine hitting 5 of 6 to seal the victory. LCF13 and Kadel, not so much. The poor showing from the line, however, wasn't bringing anyone's spirits down by any means. "Goehausen was what we thought they were," Plous said of #45 who fouled out with 5:00 to play in regulation. "We had a gameplan, stuck to it, and were physical with our defense. A great effort from all B. Westies in uniform tonight."
Kadel and Whetstine posted career-high numbers on Tuesday night. Plous threw in a double-double, and Sargent added 9 in the winning effort. Alex "The Hitman" Carr posted a career-best in rebounds, with 8, and Chad "Chifferobe" Cillessen played shut-down defense and handled the ball with care, committing zero turnovers. "Dip 'n Sniff" Nick Reddell came off the bench to successfully pester the opposition's best spot shooter, #5, who finished the game with only 7 points after scoring the first five of the game (Sargent was guarding him at the time - TYPICAL). Only 4 of Quick Nick's shots were blocked by Goehausen's taller players.
*Next week marks a special "Basketball & Bronsons" event. For $15, you get a ticket to Bremerton West's 7:30 tip against TEAM RED, followed by special dugout seating for the Punishers baseball game at Macken Park at 9:00 PM. One Boulevard Wheat aluminum bottle included with purchase.
FINEABLE OFFENSES RETURN: G/F Tyler Whetstine has been fined $0.50 for not returning his jersey to be laundered to team officials following Tuesday night's game. In addition to the monetary fine, he will be expected to come to next week's game with a clean jersey.
Congratulations to Matt Kadel for wearing his college shorts ONE WEEK LATE. Upon further review, he'd better keep wearing them. There's still an outside shot at Kadel making All-Newcomer squad....
