News, News, News....Bremerton 2009 Session 1 Season Wrap-Up

Bremerton West fell to the mighty Money Shots last night, 78-55.  It was the second defeat at the hands of the Money Shots this season.  "They're playing down a division," Coach Sargent said after the game.  "My best advice to you?  Shut up."

For those of you who spent Tuesday evening watching President Obama address the nation, you missed one hell of a show.  For starters, Bremerton West had four players reach double-digit point totals for the first time in their storied history.  Go ahead, let it sink in.  Even with players such as Tilgner, DeBaun, and Van Zante on the roster did the Westies ever achieve such a feat.  Redonkulous!

Joe "The Grocer" set the pace last night with 19 points on 5-for-10 shooting from behind the arc.  With 10 rebounds, it marked his first career double-double.  "I'm going to eat Mexican before more games," Grocer when asked about his performance.  Alex Carr, The Unit, had a breakout performance, notching 10 points and 3 assists.  "About time," Unit said afterward.  Both players noted that they were anxious to get back in the mix after a one-week hiatus.

Dave Plous, LCF13, Monster of the Midway, Cat Backer Extroidinaire, had himself his third double-dime of the first session, notching 10 points and 12 boards.  "Really, really tough match-ups out there," Coach said of Plous's performance.  He's a warrior inside.  We just ran out of juice tonight."

Sargent had his sixth double-digit scoring effort, putting up 13 points in the loss.  When approached in the post-game press conference about a possible nod as an All-League performer, Sargent quipped, "We just finished session one with a 4-4 record.  That's your news.  Tied for second place finish.  We'll worry about individual accolades - never.  This is a team game, and everyone on the team is doing their part.  And this is the best team I've been on in a very long time."

In other game news, Nick Reddell was whistled for the first technical foul of the season Tuesday.  "I said, 'I'm getting hammered in here.'  I don't know what the 'T' was for.  Next thing I know, they call an illegal screen, a hand check, and a travel.  Sometimes, the refs get on a power trip or something.  I mean, they're acting like hard-asses, wearing their faux-Timex silver watches.  Ugh."  Reddell needed a Citron and Sprite just to get through the post-game.  "We'll get the officiating issues cleared up," Coach Sargent interjected.  "There's far too much shoving and jersey-pulling, for sure."

Chris Roth filled the stat sheet as usual, tying a career high with 9 assists, while pulling down a career-best 7 boards.  "Didn't fill it up the way I'd like to, but I've got to contribute in any way I can," he said after the game.  Roth, who recently re-upped his contractual agreement with Nike, sported his new-look Jordans at the game (see sidebar).

The Westies now have a one-month hiatus before starting the 2009 season's second session on March 24th at The Matt.

RECRUITING
F Jason Briley of Overland Park, has been contacted as a potential recruit for the upcoming second session.  No word yet from the Briley camp on his status.  F Matt Kadel, Kansas City, MO recruit, has orally committed, and team Scouting Director Dave Plous expects him to sign his official letter of intent by March 14.  He hails from the University of Kansas and has at least one pair of Adidas KU shorts.  Team officials are still in negotiations with free agent C Steve Kullberg.  F/C Nate Solis (the "Handsome Hispanic") has been rumored to be in talks with the team, but no team officials would confirm talks.

B. HILL SABBATICAL
Newcomer F Bradley Hill has taken sabbatical from the team.  Reasons include: (1) time to heal from multiple injuries, both finger and rib, and (2) possible alcohol poisoning related to 2009 Barstool Open.

CHAD C. "CHIPPER" UPDATE
Tax season is approaching, and Chad C. looks to have ample free time on his horizon.  However, last B. West officials heard that Chad still felt like he was running "with rocks in his shoe" when trying to test his ankle.  No concrete date for his return to action has been set.

Later this week, we'll have more in-depth coverage of the recruiting process as well as any post-season accolades awarded any Westies.  Until then, block off March 24th as Bremerton gets going again!
