While the Bremerton West players were definitely in attendence and played in the game last night, it's still uncertain if they participated on both ends of the floor. The stifling defense that the squad displayed last week eluded them (shocking, I know!) to the tune of a 26-point defeat, 74-48. Chris Roth, playing his first game of the season, turned in the only performance worth mentioning, with exactly half of the team's points.
"I was feeling it," Roth said afterwards at The Other Place. "But, I'd much rather play in a closer game. It's whatever tonight. Dece-lers."
The coaching staff was noticeably less nonchalant about the defeat. "We should've stuck with the zone," assistant Brad Hill chimed in. "We don't have the ability to go hard man-to-man to catch up in a game like that."
Ultimately, it was Coach Sargent's switch to man defense that initially pulled the Westies to within a dozen early in the second half, but the intensity wasn't able to hold the entire period. The Money Shots stretched their lead to 36 before a late flurry of offense by Bremerton. "Disappointed. We just didn't play well after about 5 minutes into the game. Didn't make outside shots. Again. Our offense was completely out of sync. We'll dwell on this one for a day, then forget about it. On to next week's opponent."
Bremerton West plays M & I Bank next Tuesday, 6:30PM at The Matt.
