Zul Signs With KC Pirates

Chris "Zul" Cool has inked a tentative contract with the Kansas City Pirates, Bremerton Press has learned today. The Pirates, with a 7-12 record on the season, are looking to replenish a roster depleted by apsenteeism and injuries.

Manager Jacob Giesler: "We've got four games left on the schedule currently. This is a tight time right now, the playoff push. We want to see where Cool can fit in our ballclub. His ability to play first, left, and right can make him a valuable asset to our team going forward."

No details of the contract were released. As for an official statement from the Zul himself, those of you who know him know we probably won't be getting one. On his official site, it reads only: "Zul has signed a limited contract for the remainder of the 2008 KCMSBL season, with a club option for 2009. No word on when Zul will be placed on the active roster." However, sources close to the situation report that the Zulander has scheduled workouts with fellow Bremerton West athlete Matt Sargent for this weekend.

Speaking of Sargent, the rising favorite for Newcomer of the Year in the KCMSBL may be letting his BA of .462 go to his head a little. After a rainout this past Tuesday, the Shawnee Punishers (7-11) travel to enemy territory to lock horns with the Northland Yankees this Sunday, 2PM at Macken Park in Kansas City, Missouri. Following the game, Sargent's awakened-from-the-dead fan club will be holding a meet-and-greet event at T.G.I. Friday's on Shawnee Mission PKWY and Mauer RD in Shawnee, Kansas at 6PM. Appetizer and drink specials abound. One autograph item per attendee is requested. Several Bremerton celebrities are rumored to be in attendance, but none are guaranteed.

NOTES: In signing with the Pirates, Chris Cool joins Matt Sargent as Bremerton West's only two-sport stars (volleyball, dodgeball, etc. notwhithstanding)....Sargent takes a 4-game hitting streak into Sunday's game at Northland....Adidas has signed Sargent to a multi-sport contract, for both baseball and basketball equipment....Cool has been contacted by Adidas, Nike, and New Balance for a shoe contract, but no deal emminent....Cool's future brother-in-law, Michael Lopez, has a suspended contract with the Kansas City Pirates.
