The blockbuster deal that was to have superfan Nick Barkman sent to the Far East for a group of up-and-coming camera phone photographers appears to, at least for the moment, be a dead duck. With Bremerton Press still investigating, it seems there are culprits holding the trade up on both ends - (1) three of the ten Asians have failed at their physicals (as medical examiner Zul said, "it was miserable."), and (2) the Barkman's can't seem to produce the proper paperwork for their pug, which is central to the transaction taking place.
"I'm going to fly over on the weekend, but be back for class at North by Monday at 7:40AM," Sherrill Barkman said in a statement. This possibly put the Far East on notice that Mrs. Barkman planned on spending only "quiet summer months" in God's country, while returning to the United States for the majority of her living. Consequently, B. Press anticipates that Sherrill's contract will not be bought out by the Far East after all.

In a read statement to the press, GM Matt Sargent (in safari hat, pictured) comments on the situation:
"We are disappointed that Mrs. Barkman would release any information to the public regarding a private business matter. We regret that the transaction can not proceed as originally conceived; however, we are confident that what we are asking for, and receiving from the Far East will soon be on par with one another, and the deal will be finalized."
Apparently, the not-so-secret secret was that the Far East had agreed to take the Barkmans (including pug), buy out their contracts on an INDIVIDUAL basis, therefore allowing Mrs. Barkman to return to teaching at the aforementioned North high school. Although this practice is frowned upon by league officials, it is a perfectly legal under the bylaws, provided that a mandatory 48-hour grace period is observed. Might've been a long weekend for travel....
No initial word yet if Nick Barkman will still be a part of the camera phone photographer trade.
