A Tragedy Among Tragedies

First, we learned of Heath Ledger's passing. Then, Bremerton loses its second straight tilt to open the season. Next, "Our pets heads are falling off?!" You get the idea.

The Isaiah Thomas-less Knicks were too hot to handle and too cold to hold for our Westies last evening, as they fell, 58-52. Once again, Bremerton was paced in scoring by Mark DeBaun and Rian Tilgner. T-Bone recorded the season's first triple double, with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 turnovers.

Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the game, however, was an ankle injury sustained by Zul with 8:00 left in the first half. After picking up his second foul thwarting a Knickerbocker fast break, Zul came down akwardly on his right leg. Able to leave on his own accord, Zul did not return to action the rest of the night.

"I really hope they finished filming on the new Batman film," Zul said when asked how severe his ankle injury was. "Nobody messes with Zul's movies!"

The capacity crowd was treated to the first evenly matched game of the young season. The standing-room-only patrons could be heard heckling the referees nonstop, badgering about a "lot of contact" under the basket with little foul calling. Afterwards, DeBaun spun it in his own words. "There was a lot of contact. Sure, we'd like to get more calls, but....well, the referees kind of put their whistles in their pockets for the last 2 minutes at our end of the floor."

In related news, the game, which ran a little long for time, forced several of the Knicks players to miss their Fan Fest and autograph session, sponsored by Proactiv Solution. All those youngsters who wanted to get an autograph from mini-Alex Gordon, or Tom Cruise circa-Top Gun, or a roided-out Van Zante (complete with brown hair) can pick up an absentee voucher at the Knicker's front office.
