With the writer's strike officially over, we can now get down to brass tacks on all the Bremerton news that's fit to print. (What do you mean, you didn't know about the strike? Well, I guess it's not like anyone was reporting from here then. You mean we don't get coverage in the KC Star? Can't Posnanski throw us into an article right next to Buck O'Neill? WTF??)
Bremerton opened their season last Tuesday to much fanfare. However, the amped-up atmosphere left much player performance to be desired from the outset. Our Westies found themselves in a 14-1 hole early, down at one point 20-4! The team set a record for turnovers and number of shots blocked in half of a half, with....uncountably many. However, a late charge by Wyatt Earp and his Immortals in the last 3 minutes of the first period cut the lead to 9, at 24-15.
Interim Coach Sargent, riding a personal 8-game losing streak, broke the mold in the second half right out of the shoot. Starting himself, DeBaun, Tilgner, Cool, and talented young sophomore Chris Roth, B. West cut the "B" Team lead to 32-31 with just under 13 minutes left to play in the game.
Alas, the crucial loss of DeBaun down the stretch, coupled with untimely turnovers cost the game, as the Westies fell 57-52. Rian Tilgner was given the "Glass is Half Full" Award for his performance, as he paced the squad in every major statistical category.
*UPDATE* Chad M. Cillissen has been given a 10-day contract by Bremerton Press to cover the 2008 Winter X-Games, likely brought to you by some energy drink destined to get you hopped up when mixed with vodka this weekend. Perhaps you can grow a sack and emulate Zul's reign of terror....just kidding, that's next to impossible.
