Green & Gold Line | May 24, 2010

For those of you who've been living under a rock the last month or so, Bremerton West's annual year-end extravaganza and banquet is upon us this week, as Sargeque V is scheduled for 1 PM this Saturday, May 29th. The Sargeque has been noted to not only kick off Memorial Day celebrations in Shawnee, Kansas, as well as the return of warmer weather, but has notoriously been a springboard for Bremerton's offseason roster moves.

The more things change, the more things stay the same. This much has been released to the public: yes, there WILL be Michelob Golden at the party. Bremerton West brass is scheduled to unveil a new website. Whether or not this will be up and running has been open to speculation. Just announced today is the special V.I.P. Experience that will get you in before the general public and a spot in the screening room to watch the Yankees - Indians game at noon.

And now, this just in ... Bremerton West is set to unveil its inaugural Hall of Fame member, and all three finalists have been selected! Up for induction this year are Steve Kullberg, Mark DeBaun, and David Plous.

"We're excited about the B. West Hall of Fame announcement," team chaplain Zul said via Skype on Monday afternoon. "This is the first step towards a complete Bremerton West multimedia experience."

Without any elaboration, one can only guess the implications of Zul's comments. Sargeque V, brought to you by Bremerton West, is shaping up to be quite an event!

Bremerton Comeback Falls Short

"GIVE ME YOUR PLAYER CAAAARDS!" the scorekeeper yelled at Coach Sargent less than five minutes before last night's tip-off. "They are right there on the scorer's table," Sargent shot back, irritated that he was the ire of a man who hadn't showered in some time.

After the game, Sargent reflected on the scene from the get-go of the 7th Place game. "So, we're getting yelled at. Next, the referees have us shooting on the wrong basket ... you know, we did a SURVIVOR on them in the 2nd frame; outwit, outlast, outplayed. To be down 22 at half, wow! I had a feeling something was a little off when Carter got a ball stuck between the rim and backboard during pre-game. We followed our best-shooting game (last week) with our worst half of the season. And that's saying a lot."

The score at the midway point stood at 37-15. Then, the refs wanted the teams to shoot at the same goal for the second half. Sargent was adamant in his displeasure. "The lighting is bad on that end. Both teams should suffer equally," he quipped.

Bremerton took charge early in the second half, hitting a multitude of long-range jumpers, fueled by three quick treys from Sargent. Brad Hill and Tyler Whetstine got going as well. Nick Reddell's defense and interior passing on the offensive end kept the heat on. With under 7 minutes to play, Bremerton West had cut the deficit to 61-52. During a timeout, the team decided to switch from their patented zone defense to a swarming man-to-man affront. Two quick steals netted a Hill layup and Sargent three, cutting the lead to 4. That, however, would be as close as the Westies would get, as the long-range shooting that had caught fire for Bremerton so quickly faded in the same fashion late in the ballgame. While not the outcome that was hoped for by Westie fans across the globe, the players and coaches couldn't find fault with their performance on a night when the odds seemed stacked mightily against them.

"To be down 22 at half, and then to make that comeback, with only five roster players? Pretty strong," B. Hill commented. "Guess we'll get 'em next time."

When next time will be is anyone's guess. As last week's press release stated here, there are no imminent plans to disband Bremerton West. Rather, the entity is looking to strengthen itself through diversification.

When pressed about the future, Sargent brushed any rumors aside with ease. "That's like, your opinion, man. It's not like any of us pulled a piece out during league play."

Bremerton West Releases Press Statement

Statement read from the 1PM CST press conference can be read in full here.

Westies Throw Down Record Offensive Output

As rumors continue to swirl that Bremerton West Athletics is for sale, the perfect storm came together on the basketball court last night at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center. Armed with only five roster players, the Westies broke several single-game franchise records.

Bremerton's final tally of 78 points told only part of the story. Alex "Mr. Carter" Carr continued is stellar play of late with a career-high 18 points. Nick Reddell turned in a Bremerton West single-game rebounding record with an astounding 31 window cleans to go along with 15 points. Brad "Chubbs" Hill led all scorers with 19 in his first action in over a month. Tyler Whetstine posted the second triple-double in Westie lore, with 16 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.

Early on, West was able to neutralize the Southside Players' marquee scorers, Oliver Miller and Stacey Augmon. However, the scouting report failed to account for white chocolate double-trouble Mark Randall and Kevin Pritchard. Grossly overmatched, the Players' bench outscored the Westies' by a count of 38-0.

Coach Sargent equated the record-setting offensive output to a new, up-tempo style put into place recently. "Everyone needs to be looking to shoot," he said after the game. "We're trying to hold the ball for no longer than 10 seconds ... with everyone looking for their shot, and a lot of passing and movement on the offensive end, you get an idea of the chaos we are capable of creating. It was fun out there tonight."

"More shots, more scoring ... and more rebounds, I guess," Chubbs said after viewing the stat sheet from the night. "I was kind of po'd that Funky Stuff Malone didn't show for the game," referring to Southside's heralded newcomer this season. "I hope he wasn't ducking us."

With the regular season now behind them, Bremerton can now focus on the 7th place playoff game, to be held next Monday, May 17th at 9:30PM.  Team Ramrod will be the opponent.

Tyler Whetstine is looking forward to the game. "We are in shape. I heard many of the teams out here are glad the season isn't another month longer because we are finally getting our legs. Take Mr. Carter, for instance. I don't know if he hit the rim in his first three games shooting the ball. Now all of the sudden, he's like freaking Pistol Pete."

Lost in the shuffle after last night's performance was news of an early-afternoon press conference set for today, allegedly to announce future plans for the Bremerton West brand name. Some twitter rumors have Bremerton being sold to a Judge Smails and Doctor Beeper, while other reports involve a merger with global entity Prestige Worldwide. Stay tuned for all the news that's fit to print right here - we'll have it covered as soon as it breaks.

Bremerton West fell to Southside Players last night, 93-78.

Westies go for their first win of the season tonight ...

Sargeque V is full-on for May 29 ... Michelob Golden Light announced as official beer of Sargeque V ...

In other sports, Bremerton Athletics spin-off baseball program, KCMSBL's Punishers, are off to a quick start with a 2-1 record, including a season-opening sweep of the Wyandotte / KCK Giants, who lost in last year's championship series. Coach Sargent is currently on a 1-game hitting streak, while Nick Reddell missed his first of what will surely be many games of the season this past Saturday.

Rumors have begun to swirl around the Westies' front office after the announcement of a 1PM CST press conference to be held tomorrow, May 11, 2010 at Brem Hall (a.k.a. the garage). Live, late-breaking, and investigative reporting will be handled by KCTV5. We'll keep you posted with live blogging here. Stay tuned ...

Player Losses, Acquisitions Highlight Westie Front Office Moves

When Bremerton West went on hiatus, team General Manager Matt Sargent knew that their was a good chance that some of the core players - those who had been around since Day One - would likely not end their playing days in a Westie uniform.

"There was the feeling that, yes, some players may move on. You know, we've got some recruits in the pipeline. the DeBaun brothers, Drake and Knox, are still very much in the mix for our future. We already have a signed letter of intent from Connor Roth. So I think we're getting our future taken care of, but, yes ... the product on the court now, we needed to bring in some fresh blood," Sargent said recently at a team shooting session.

Among the defectors was star F Dave Plous, now playing in Roeland Park for Team Johnny Chimpo's. He says the split from Bremerton was amicable. "I still went to Sargeque IV, and Sarge and his wife were over a few weeks ago to watch hoops."

Team Johnny Chimpo's has also sported former B. West standout Rian Tilgner in recent seasons, and a defector from the team known formerly as Money Shots, Dusenberry.

Chad Cillessen, the workhorse, re-signed with Bremerton West only after a long holdout and special considerations were written into his contract. Among the rumored perks are built-in days off for flight lessons, and a realty deal on a condo in Overland Park. Cillessen, who is planning to marry this year, declined comment for this article.

"Chad was important in the respect that he is a known commodity that we lack otherwise. No one else on our roster plays as hard as Chipper, while at the same time receiving the least accolades for those efforts," Sargent added.

In the open market, Sargent turned to Jason Briley, a South alum with size and ball-handling skill that few can match up with head-to-head. "We're excited, and think that he's a good fit for the team," Assistant GM Nick Reddell said at the time of the signing.

Along with Plous, other key free agent losses were F/C Steve Kullberg (retirement) and G/F Chris Cool. Cool, however, remains on the team roster as a non-active player for the time being. "Basically, the rec league version of the practice squad. We did it for the financial reasoning, obviously," Reddell noted.

In Kullberg's place, West re-signed F Brad Hill, a post player who can stretch defenses with the range on his jump shot. "Chubbs," as he is known to the fans, announced his comeback via Twitter. He is slated to make his season debut on March 29th.

In the end, Plous knows that sooner or later, he'd like to be back in the green and gold of Bremerton West. "Yeah, I could see it happening. This season, you know, Chimpo's plays on Mondays, so it's a conflict with scheduling. But being one of the founding members, it's a special organization. I'd play again under the right circumstances. I never say never, 'cause never is a long time."

Bremerton Shocks Tatangas with 58-point Outburst

B. West is B-A-C-K.

That was the unofficial rally cry heard throughout the greater metro area Monday night as the Westies returned to action after taking nearly a full year off from league play. The new-look squad opened the 2010 campaign on ESPN360 in the prime-time 8:30PM slot at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, 119th and Lowell, Overland Park, Kansas.

For their part, West didn't disappoint.

Returning guard Tyler Whetstine was hot early, scoring 14 first-half points to keep the Wyandotte County Tantangas' 2-3 defense honest. Matt Sargent looked to be in mid-season, Curtis Staples-esque form, going 9-20 from the field and an unblemished 2-2 from the charity stripe to pour in a game-high 26. Whetstine finished the game with 20.

The high-scoring output from the guard tandem was dictated mostly by the WyCoTan's size advantage. "We needed to stretch their zone," Whetstine said in the post game press conference. "Our bigs were getting abused, so we employed a 4-out, 1-in approach. Reddell really used his leverage to his advantage."

Nick the Quick dominated the paint on both ends of the floor in the 2nd half, scoring 8 in the latter frame. "Good to be back on the court," he noted.

Alex "A.C.," "Carter," Carr turned in arguably his best game as a Westie last night, hitting a myriad of circus shots, a banked 3-pointer, and a free throw. "Still need to work on my ball handling, though," Carr noted, pointing out his ill-advised no-look drop-pass to Joe Burke in the early stages of the 2nd half as an example. "I'll get there."

Speaking of the Grocer, "El Burke" typically dominated the window on the defensive end, when the Tantangas did miss shots. Burke looks to once again be among the league's elite when it comes to rebounds. "I want to show everyone I haven't missed a beat, as far as rebounding goes. Now, missing shots, that's another matter," Joe was quoted as saying, perhaps referring to his 1-9 shooting display in the season opener. "I'd like to say there's nowhere I could go but up; then I thought, well, I did make one. So, I think it can't get much worse than that. New building, new angles ... almost banked a 3 from the corner, though ... I'll play through it."

Coach Sargent credited his new dribble-drive hi-lo flex motion zone offense for the scoring outburst from the Westies on Opening Night. "A lot of ins, lot of outs, lot of what-have-yous," he said in the locker room after the game. "When you've got a guard-oriented team such as ours, it really puts the coach in a unique situation. We can exploit the other teams in unique ways. I think Nick Reddell causes a lot of matchup problems, honestly. Did you know he leads the league in steals in games 7:30PM or later since 2008? But, but ah ... I don't think you can crown us yet. We're here to prove all the preseason accolades are well-deserved. It's business time, as far as we're concerned."

Business time, indeed. Final score: Bremerton West 58, Tantangas 82. See you at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center next week, tip-off is at 9:30PM sharp. Newcomer F Jason Briley, and letterwinners Brad Hill and Chris Roth are expected to make their season debuts. Go Westies!

Bremerton Falls, 35-25

It certainly wasn't pretty for most of the night, Bremerfans.  Bremerton West, try as they might, were once again knocked down by a poor all-around shooting performance culminating in a 6th place finish in the Men's 'C' Division Tuesday night league.  Much of the talk at the post-game was focused on the lopsided foul dispersion.  Team RED was called for but one foul in the second half, while the Westies were whistled a robust eleven times.

"No comment," Coach Sargent quipped after the game.  "I'm not using this as an excuse, but you can see for yourself the difference the officiating makes."

Matt Kadel paced West with 9 points, including a late three-pointer, their only one of the second half.  "RED hit about 8 threes, I believe," Kadel said.  "We hit 3.  That's five points.  And the discrepancy in free throws?  Ouch."

Kadel failed to mention another poor call that occured in the first frame.  However, Grocer Joe was on top of it from the get-go sitting outside his locker.  "How about the play where Kadel got pushed over on the fast break, only to get called for out-of-bounds?  What's up with that crapola?  We don't put up with that kind of (stuff) at Hy-Vee, (forget) that."

Steve Kullberg set a league record with 12 blocks in the losing effort.  Koach K also finished with 4 points, 10 boards, and 4 fouls.  "Filled my stat sheet," scorekeeper Jeffrey noted after the game.

In other news, the season-in-review DVD, "Sarge's RELAPSE," cover art was revealed this morning (pictured at left).  It will include game-by-game analysis, player interviews, and a special "Baking with your Bremerton Buddy" short with April "Ap" Matney.  Pre-orders will begin soon.

Stay tuned later this week as BremertonWest.com hands out their annual postseason awards.

Sargeque IV Raises Funds for "Zul's Kids"

Sargeque IV has been hailed as the best Sargeque yet.  The "Zul Rules the Kids" Foundation is now $341.26 closer to re-opening thanks to the gratuitious showing by Sargeque IV attendees.  Zul Nation hopes to re-launch his non-profit by the end of August.  "I'm humbled by the generosity, how many lives' will be touched with these donations," Zul was quoted on Saturday.

Now for the good stuff:
  • Christopher "Zul" Cool took home the title of "Grand Champion" for Sargeque IV for his beef brisket and barbeque sauce.
  • Rian Tilgner won the purple ribbon for his barbeque chicken thighs.  He also won the "chicken division."
  • David Plous was awarded honorable mention chicken wings for his "Believe the Hype" sauce.  Plous' wings, it should be noted, were the only meat plate that had no leftovers.
  • Matt Sargent took home the blue ribbon in the "pork division" for his smoked pork butt.
  • James Isom earned "Most Meat Disposed Of" for Sargeque IV.
  • Chad "Chipper" Cillessen won the "catfish division."  In addition, he also won the grand prize drawing, an autographed Bremerton West warm-up t-shirt (authentic).
  • Matt Kadel won best-dressed for his Royals shirt and KU hat.  What, did you think someone wearing KSU gear was going to win this award?  You do know who's house this was at, correct?
  • April Matney won "Best App (sponsored by Apple)" for her interpretation of Linda's Pinwheels recipe.
Sargeque IV organizers want to send out a special thank-you to all attendees this last Saturday.  Sargeque IV was officially the highest-attended Sargeque on record (Special thanks to Zach Greinke??).

Bremerton West finishes their season Tuesday, May 12, 7:30PM at The Matt.  The competition: Team RED.  At stake: fifth place in the league.  See you there.  Post-game season wrap party immediately following at The Other Place.  Go Westies!

As Bremerton Turns....

Next week's Divisional Playoff matchups have been announced, and Bremerton West has drawn team RED in a revenge game vying for 5th place in the league.  If you recall, B. West had control of the game throughout, only to squander the lead late and never regaining enough momentum to mount a substantial comeback.  This time around, the Westies are hungry - not to mention playing their best ball of the year, no doubt.  Hope to see everyone come out to The Matt for the 7:30PM tip on May 12th.

ManRam has been found guilty of PEDs.  Is it time to commission another Paul Mitchell Report?

Top NCAA hoop recruit John Wall was arrested earlier this week.  Man, life keeps getting tougher for Coach Cal in the bluegrass state, eh?  (Read: Cal & most of bluegrass hoops nation would sell their souls to the devil for a Nat'l Championship, we're not holding our breath.)

Who is more pissed about ManRam: the real Dodgers owner, or fantasy owners?  You decide, my vote is for the latter.  I could give a damn, I've got Zack.

I recently learned how to auto-tune my voice using GarageBand.  Everyone is on notice: debauchery forthcoming.  The opening lyrics go a little something like this: The Jonas Brothers sing their song / While the teachers grade papers all night long.  You can see where this is going, and although it's not going to be pretty, but I'm going to take you there anyway, Hammers.

The Yankees SUCK.  No heart.  Too old, been saying that for at least 3-5 seasons now.  Maybe they can buy out ManRam's contract, get all the juicers on the same squad, eh?  Hey, at least our first baseman is better looking than your first baseman.  The Royals have the 4th best record in baseball and a budding superstar (No, I'm not talking about the poster child for Pilsbury, Billy Butler!)?  Seattle lost Ibanez and got good again?  Man, this season is already blowing my mind.

SARGEQUE IV's excitement is building in West Shawnee / East DeSoto FTW.  Bring your appetites as Ap has designed a spread that could feed a small group of car salesmen headed to a government seizure auction.

Hey, did you read this article yet?  Waaaay funnier than mine.  And this is the 2ND link to it in this prose....no excuses, no regrets!  (Thx to Coach Henry for making a permanent spot in my head that houses that little "nugget" of a saying.)

Well, I'm out.  My alma mater is hosting its yearly extravaganza and you know I'm hitting up the big opening night.  Laters, ladies y gents....

Bremerton West Takes 2-Game Winning Streak into Sargeque IV

They said it couldn't be done.  Joe Burke, Alex Carr, Chad Cillessen, Nick Reddell, Matt Sargent, and Tyler Whetstine were the six active roster players for the Westies last night, taking on the 34-and-over defending league champs, led by John Buck t-shirt jersey guy who's set shot was a bit like Larry Legend's.  B. West put together a solid 40 minutes of basketball to prevail, setting a team record for rebounds in a game, with 62.  That being said, it wasn't a runaway victory.

West dug themselves their usual hole, falling behind 10-2 early.  Sparked by the offensive play of Tyler Whetstine and Chad "Chipper," "Nuts" Cillessen (who drilled his first 3-pointer of the season), the halftime score found Bremerton down by two, 18-16.

"As I was walking the ball up to start the second half thinking, if we could drill a three here, we could really deflate them right out of the bat.  Tyler got open, hit a three, and the rest, well....you saw what we did on the defensive side of the ball," Coach Sargent said after the game.

Indeed, West went on a 19-0 run to start the second half that cemented the outcome.  "I look up, and it's 35-18," the Grocer said after the game.  "Our defensive rebounding was soooo good.  They were one-and-out most of the second half."

It was Burke who anchored the Westies' new-look 2-1-2 defense, suggested by Asst. Coach Whetstine.  "We just packed it in.  Our scouting report showed they were poor outside shooters who liked to deke on the perimeter and drive.  Our defense has been awesome the last two games," Whetstine added.

In addition to Cillessen's first points in two sessions, G Alex Carr had some sick moves in the paint, hitting a Kirk Hinrich-esque floating jumper in the second half that was a veritable dagger (KSU fans out there will know what I'm talking about).  Carr added 4 steals and 2 assists to his game resume in earning co-MVP honors this week.

Whetstine followed his performance of last week by setting a new career-high with 18 of West's 42 points.  Sargent added 14 on 20 shots, including 4-of-6 from the line.

PUNISHERS BASEBALL UPDATE: Following the Westies' game, guards Matt Sargent and Nick Reddell headed immediately to Macken Park in deplorable NKC for a 9PM first pitch versus the Northland Yankees.  Behind Sargent's 2-3 performance, including an error-riddled, inside-the-park home run, the Punishers won, 11-9.  The fat-assed catcher for Northland was a bitch, but it didn't phase Sargent at the dish.  "Motherf*cker was running his mouth all night," Sargent said while sitting at his locker post-game, sipping a Green Apple Smirnoff Ice.  "I just tune those dumbasses out, really."

Reddell performed admirably in his first action of the season, committing only 1 error.  He missed the season-opening doubleheader last Saturday visiting "friends" in San Fransisco, CA.  "It was a good time, but now I've got to get our doubleheader on Saturday, May 16th changed due to the Crawl for Cancer.

IF/OF Chad Trease got the call-up to the Punishers National League roster before the game.  "I usually have softball on Sundays, but being that this was a Tuesday game, it worked out well," Trease was quoted.

SARGEQUE IV UPDATE: Please note that those who wear a Zack Greinke player t-shirt to Sargeque IV will receive a door prize.  Those wearing any Royals gear will be awarded a slightly lesser door prize.  Sarge is currently working on the iTunes playlist for Sargeque IV, which will include all available singles released so far from the new Eminem CD, Relapse.  In addition, a few unreleased Killers jams may rear their head on Saturday afternoon.  The Crocodile Mile kiddie pool will again be open; BYOS (bring your own sunscreen) and beach towel.  Beer drinking commences at 2PM.

*It appears that it will come down to tiebreakers for the Westies' season finale tournament game.  We will be playing for either 3rd or 5th, which would put our game at 7:30 or 8:30 next week.  We'll keep you posted.

Go Westies.

**ARTCO CASKET UPDATE: Damn management.  Whoever went to Sam's Club this week forgot to get me my damned Coke Zero.  %$#&!!  No Coke Zero=Crabby Sarge.

B. West Cruises to a "W" / Fineable Offenses Return

Dave Plous and Matt Kadel's "Bremerton Bailout Plan" worked to perfection on Tuesday night a The Matt Ross Community Center.  LCF13 switched it up by changing jersey numbers, and repeatedly telling teammates before the game, "I'm tired of getting our asses kicked every time out.  Let's [expletive] win a [expletive] game tonight."

For the first time in recent memory, the Westies came out firing on all cylinders.

Kadel and Plous combined deft interior passing with rare high shot percentage to climb out to an early commanding lead.  Swingman Tyler Whetstine also attacked the basket as well as he has all season long.  "You play to win the game," he was quoted after the victory.

The halftime momentum went to team Faghousen, as a broken play led to a 28-foot leaner dropping as time expired.  The Westies led at half, 26-23.  "Look, we're undefeated when we lead at half," Coach Sargent noted after the game.  "I felt good about our chances.  We just needed to go back inside and get easy duckets."

Goehausen would tie the game around the 12:00 mark left in the game.  From there, Plous, Kadel, and Whetstine took over.  Matt Sargent threw in a few ugly lay-ins as well.  Free throws were the name of the game down the stretch, with Whetstine hitting 5 of 6 to seal the victory.  LCF13 and Kadel, not so much.  The poor showing from the line, however, wasn't bringing anyone's spirits down by any means.  "Goehausen was what we thought they were," Plous said of #45 who fouled out with 5:00 to play in regulation.  "We had a gameplan, stuck to it, and were physical with our defense.  A great effort from all B. Westies in uniform tonight."

Kadel and Whetstine posted career-high numbers on Tuesday night.  Plous threw in a double-double, and Sargent added 9 in the winning effort.  Alex "The Hitman" Carr posted a career-best in rebounds, with 8, and Chad "Chifferobe" Cillessen played shut-down defense and handled the ball with care, committing zero turnovers.  "Dip 'n Sniff" Nick Reddell came off the bench to successfully pester the opposition's best spot shooter, #5, who finished the game with only 7 points after scoring the first five of the game (Sargent was guarding him at the time - TYPICAL).  Only 4 of Quick Nick's shots were blocked by Goehausen's taller players.

*Next week marks a special "Basketball & Bronsons" event.  For $15, you get a ticket to Bremerton West's 7:30 tip against TEAM RED, followed by special dugout seating for the Punishers baseball game at Macken Park at 9:00 PM.  One Boulevard Wheat aluminum bottle included with purchase.

FINEABLE OFFENSES RETURN: G/F Tyler Whetstine has been fined $0.50 for not returning his jersey to be laundered to team officials following Tuesday night's game.  In addition to the monetary fine, he will be expected to come to next week's game with a clean jersey.

Congratulations to Matt Kadel for wearing his college shorts ONE WEEK LATE.  Upon further review, he'd better keep wearing them.  There's still an outside shot at Kadel making All-Newcomer squad....

SARGEQUE IV NOTES: We are now a mere 10 days out from Sargeque IV, West Shawnee's premiere spring fling event.  Don't forget to drive slow down Sarge and Ap's street, there are 35 kids inhabiting the surrounding premises.  We'll be open for business at 2PM on the 9th.  Outdoor kiddie pool should be ready for partaking, as well as bocce (Barkman?), billiards and table tennis challenges, Wii competition, and the usual unveiling of new paraphenalia in the Kansas University Room of Athletic Achievement (Champions Deck).  All those who remain unseated shall await the next show.

Let's go Westies!

**If Sarge successfully shuns work for garbling on the internets, stay tuned this Friday, May 1st for a SPECIAL "May Day" announcement from BEI.  Later Hammers!
